Budding stylists are being offered the chance to work with a top Liverpool designer to create doll-sized fashions for a new museum exhibit.
Creative minds of all ages are being invited to submit miniature fashion designs, which will be included in an exhibition in the new Museum of Liverpool when the museum opens in Summer.
'Made up: The Liverpool Look' will examine the impact that fashion and style has had on perceptions of individuals and the city as a whole and scouse designer Kirsty Doyle has joined curators to run the dainty designs competition.
The first in a series of displays dealing with identity, local people will be able to present their interpretations of the widespread trends, styles and experiences of Liverpool people in the form of outfits designed for dolls.
Curator of community content for the Museum of Liverpool, Lizzy Rodgers, said: “We had the quirky idea of showcasing designs by asking applicants to create outfits for fashion dolls, based on a particular Liverpool style, ‘style tribe’ or replicas of outfits they’ve seen on the streets of the city.
“The fashion and style of Liverpool people is unique and distinct, and we want the local community to play a major part in creating a display which demonstrates personal style, the style of the city and the style of our various fashion exports.”
The outfits should be for dolls of approximately 30cm in height, so Barbie, Ken, and Sindy are all examples of the types of dolls that would be suitable for this purpose.
Entry to the competition is free and a panel of local artists, designers and curators will judge entries, which have to be submitted by Friday 4th February.
The best of the work submitted will be shown in the Museum of Liverpool for the duration of this display as part of the People’s Republic gallery.
Project Catwalk winner Kirsty will be hosting two workshops to inspire and support potential entries and give some hints and tips on the trendiest designs, on Sunday 23rd and 30th January, from 10am to 4pm.
Places for the workshops for age 14+ are limited and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis by contacting Lizzy Rodgers on 0151 478 4439 or emailing lizzy.rodgers@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk
