The legendary West End smash hit The All New Original Tribute to The Blues Brothers visits the Liverpool Empire from 8-12 February, helping Liverpool shake a tail feather and shake off
those post-Christmas blues in style.
This ‘all-new’ production presents all of the classic moments from the original hit West End show and more; including a brand new set, new twists, new moves, new songs - and freshly
laundered suits!
With backing from the inimitable three ‘Bluettes’ and one of Europe’s finest seven piece bands, Jake and Elwood Blues will once again be donning their iconic hats, sunglasses and suits to bring to life a host of the duo’s most memorable hits; including Shake A Tail Feather, Think, Respect, Gimme Some Loving, and the toe-tapping classic Everybody Needs Somebody To Love. This
brand new reworking of the celebrated show is directed by Brad Henshaw; an established name on the international music stage who will also star in the show as Jake - one half of the Brothers Blue!
Following its humble premiere in a small seaside pub in Brighton in 1991, the show fast became a runaway success. It was swiftly snapped up by theatre producer David Pugh and film director David Leyland, who opened the show in the West End just six months later. There it won a BAFTA for Best New Musical, and the run was extended from six to an unprecedented forty six weeks; playing to over 150,000 people. Now, years later, it’s back, refreshed and ready to party!
Dust off your pork pie hat dig out your shades and don those dancing shoes and prepare to shake it like never before. Join the Blues Brothers for a night of the best music, moves, thrills and spills you’re likely to see this side of Chicago - these boys don’t hang around – so catch them while you can!
BLUES BROTHERS FACTS
Since its premiere almost 2 decades ago, The Original Tribute to The Blues Brothers has been performed to over 2 million people worldwide.
The Original Tribute to The Blues Brothers was nominated for the 1992 Laurence Olivier Award for Most Outstanding Entertainment.
The show has toured all over the world, including Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
Although it is hard to believe now, when The Original Tribute To The Blues Brothers burst onto the scene in 1991, tribute acts and shows were scarcely seen or heard of. The show was truly ahead of its time!
In 1993 Russell Crowe took the lead part as Jake Blues in an Australian production of the show (when he told USA Today he enjoyed the role because it allowed him to "sit in my own flat with my own mess talking to my own cockroaches."!)
The Blues Brothers film was given one of the biggest budgets of its time but didn’t enjoy great success at the box office – however it is still one of the biggest selling videos of all time.
David Pugh - a now world renowned theatre producer - and his film director friend David Leyland were the first to spot the show’s potential when they went to see the Brighton show for themselves. The show needed work but they saw the start of something special...and within six months the show opened in London’s West End.
Having started out on Saturday Night Live, in 1978 the Blues Brothers – John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd - performed live on a fifty two date gruelling sell out tour of the America; providing the warm up act for the comedian Steve Martin coast to coast across the USA.
