Liverpool men's charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and the high street’s leading men’s clothing retailer Topman have joined forces to launch a brand new, free bi-monthly men’s magazine.
Lifestyle magazine RESET launches this month and is aimed at CALM's key target audience of 15 to 35-year-old men. It will be distributed through Topman stores in Merseyside, Manchester and London.
RESET is an exploration and celebration of the psyche of the modern day young man, with articles, interviews, anecdotes, resources and reviews of everything from TV, films, gigs and games.
The front cover interview for the first issue is UK Hip Hop sensation Professor Green. Future editions of the magazine’s content will be generated from CALM’s new website (www.thecalmzone.net) making it one of the few publications in the UK whose editorial copy is led by the audience reading the magazine and using the website.
RESET also features practical advice and contributions from famous and everyday people on how they have dealt with high levels of stress in their lives and how they turned their lives around.
Every day in the UK, three young men feel as if they have no option but to take their own life by suicide. On average, 162 suicides occur on Merseyside and Cheshire each year.
CALM’s work has proven to reduce the incidence of suicide amongst young men by offering platforms for help and advice as well as offering lads a sense of credibility, confidence and security when they are ready to get things off their chest.
The Magazine will tackle many taboo issues head on, with interviews of high profile men talking about how they RESET their lives as well as light-hearted articles highlighting issues regarding a man’s wellbeing.
Development Coordinator for CALM Merseyside, Simon Howes, said: “Over the ten years CALM has been active on Merseyside we have used a variety of different media to engage with lads, whether it’s using social networks, our website, our YouTube channel or the CALM chill-out tent at local festivals.
"I think the magazine is one of the most exciting opportunities to communicate with blokes. It’s going to be a really interesting to see how the concept plays out, with much of the content written by the guys who interact with CALM, via the website, from all over the country.
"This is one of our biggest contributions to Merseyside’s Year of Health & Wellbeing, enabling and empowering the regions young men to have their say and get inspired.”
Senior Marketing Manager for Topman, Ruth Bowie, said: “CALM's quest to bring down the number of male suicide incidents in the UK is a cause we feel very passionately towards at Topman.
"RESET Magazine has provided a fresh and evolving channel that connects with young males and gives airtime to the many challenges and taboo issues they will face.
"We look forward to RESET rolling out to further Topman stores during 2011.”
