Liverpool Central Citizens Advice Bureau is holding a series of four events this month with the aim of raising £50,000 – enough to keep the jobs of one third of its staff whose jobs are at risk.

Funding cuts are threatening a number of expert frontline services at the city centre office, based on Cook Street, whose help has been invaluable to tens of thousands of people who have used the centre for advice on welfare, debt and housing.

The fundraising begins on Saturday, November 6, with a bag packing event at Asda on Smithdown Road, between 10am and 2pm.

A benefit concert of music and comedy will take place at the Cavern club on Thursday November 11. Featuring a number of well-known local bands including Lovecraft, Man Get Out and Emily and the Faves, as well as comics such as 80s Luke and the MD Productions dancers, the night will run from 7pm to 1.30am. Tickets are £8 in advance or £10 on the door.

The concert will be followed by an afternoon bazaar and evening auction at the Slug and Lettuce on North John Street on Friday November 12, from 3pm to 11pm. All day entertainment from singers including Peaches and Sophia Patterson will provide a great backdrop for some early Christmas shopping. Entry is £2.50, with the auction taking place at 7pm with some fantastic prizes up for grabs including hotel stays, comedy nights in your living room, martial arts lessons and expert business training perfect for city companies.

The final event will be a collection outside Everton Football Club on Sunday, November 14 between 12pm and 3pm.

For tickets to the concert please call the Central Liverpool CAB on 0151 285 8534, or drop into the office at 1 Union Court, Cook Street, Liverpool, L2-4SJ.

Liverpool Central CAB is a registered charity, no. 513239.

Last year the city centre CAB alone helped deal with £10m of debt, helped residents claim £689,791 in benefits, represented 1,998 people in court for housing possession and eviction and debt hearings. In total, more than 10,000 clients were helped with 51,235 problems.
