Clapperboard Presents... Going Off Big Time, written by and starring, two-time British Comedy Award winning Liverpool writer Neil Fitzmaurice (Phoenix Nights, The Office, Peep Show, Benidorm). It was the first of a series of films (such as “The 51st State” starring Samuel L. Jackson), shot in Liverpool in 1999.

The film tells the story of gangster Mark Clayton, who after a gangland shooting is hiding out in the home of his solicitor and reminisces on his life as a criminal. Through these flashbacks, we discover the chance and tragic circumstances that turned the once law-abiding Mark into a criminal.

Directed by Jim Doyle and produced by Tony Fitzmaurice, Going Off Big Time premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and its success there led to a distribution deal with Entertainment Films making its national cinema debut on the 22 September of that year and enjoyed box office and critical success, being nominated in four categories at the British Independent Film Awards.

The film attracted positive reviews with one reviewer claiming “Going Off Big Time, has …razor sharp wit, matched with razor sharp violence, means that such comparisons with Tarantino are, for once, not unjustified…” (Nev Pierce, Total Film).

Going Off Big Time was produced on a small budget and took just five weeks to shoot using virtually all local cast and crew The film has gone on to enjoy cult states in the UK and around the world and was recently part of the Best of British season on Film Four.

Actor/writer Neil Fitzmaurice, said: "It's a great honour to have Going Off Big Time shown at The Clapperboards, as local filmmakers both myself and Tony are very proud of this city and the work that Maureen Sinclair and Clapperboard does for the young people of Merseyside! Long may it continue."

Clapperboard’s director, Maureen Sinclair said: “I’m so happy to have a second opportunity of organising a charity screening of Neil’s first low budget feature Going Off Big Time with Neil and the team in attendance.”

Actor/writer Neil Fitzmaurice and producer Tony Fitzmaurice, will participate in a Question and Answers session with the audience, Chaired by Liverpool Echo Journalist and writer, Peter Grant. A complimentary after show drink will be sponsored by 3345 Parr Street.
