Gents in Liverpool are preparing to dedicate their upper lips for a month of moustache growth with the phenomenon that is Movember, set to return to the UK for 2010.
The charity initiative, which aims to change the face of men’s health, kicked off another year of momentous moustachery when it launched in mid-October.
Movember involves true gentlemen, or ‘Mo Bros’, with help from their female supporters ‘Mo Sistas’, growing a ‘Mo’ (Australian slang for a moustache) throughout the month formerly known as November, to raise money for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.
Last year more than 45,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas took part across the country raising £5 million in just one Mo-tastic month.
This year’s campaign will celebrate the moustache, symbol of the modern gentleman, more than ever.
In Liverpool local business Voodou For Him on Bold Street will be the official Merseyside barber and will be offering Mo Bros free grooming sessions throughout the month.
The campaign will culminate with a ‘Shave Down’ event at popular nightspot The Peacock, Seel Street, on 31st Movember. Here Mo supporters will be invited to celebrate the end of the campaign by having their Mo’s expertly removed by professionals from Voodou in a barber chair set up on the balcony of the bar.
"Movember has seen some incredible support in Liverpool. Scouse men, now in their fourth official year, are fully embracing the mo as their ribbon worn proudly on the upper lip.
"With Movember just around the corner we look forward to watching our citizens help to sculpt and change the face of men’s health" says JC, Co-Founder of Movember.
Mo Bros are asked to start Movember with a clean-shaven face and for the rest of the month these generous individuals groom, trim and wax their way into fine moustachery, all the while raising money and awareness to benefit men’s health.
Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can register at www.movember.com and become citizens of Movember.
John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity says: "I look forward to the legendary gala parties every year and last year I went along dressed as Buzz Lightyear to celebrate with my fellow Mo Bros and Mo Sistas in style."
Every year nearly 36,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosed in men; every hour at least one man dies from the disease in the UK alone.
