Beatles clothing specialist Beatwear in Cavern Walks has been commissioned to create bespoke costumes for the brand new John Lennon musical at Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre.

Writer and director Bob Eaton’s widely acclaimed musical ‘Lennon’ has returned to Liverpool during the Lennon Tribute Season for the first time since its original debut at The Everyman in 1982.

Packed with the music of Lennon and McCartney, the show follows Lennon’s life from Woolton Church Fete to New York, stopping off in Hamburg and at The Cavern along the way. All of the major players in the Beatle’s life appear, from his upbringing with Aunt Mimi to his later life with Yoko Ono.

Beatwear, which designs and manufactures authentic Beatles clothing from the sixties including drainpipe trousers, collarless suits and zip leather boots, will supply the theatre with outfits custom-made for the production.

The actor who plays the older John Lennon, Andrew Schofield, will wear Beatwear’s showpiece, a bespoke white suit which will appear in one of the final scenes when he performs Imagine.

Mark Astbury, owner of Beatwear says: “We are used to getting a lot of interest from the showbiz world about our clothing and footwear – Russell Brand and Blondie both wear our leather boots – but providing outfits for the Lennon musical was particularly rewarding in our home town.

“Our business targets musicians and bands as well as theatre, movie and television productions, taking the time, expense and pain out of achieving the original authentic recreations. We’re currently supplying footwear and clothing for the E4 TV series Skins as well as a new movie being filmed at Pinewood studios. Although we are unable to give any more details at the moment, business is certainly very exciting.”

Writer and Director Bob Eaton says: “Costume is a really important and integral part of the show. It communicates visually to the audience, setting the scene. We contacted Beatwear in Cavern Walks as they have a fantastic reputation for producing great sixties and Beatles reproduction clothing. We are really happy with the outcome of our collaboration and the costumes look amazing, the only problem is that the actors want to wear the suits home!”

Lennon will run until Saturday 13 November 2010 at the Royal Court Theatre. Tickets and information are available from www.royalcourtliverpool.com or on 0870 787 1866
