The James Monro menu blooms with inspiration from National Wildflower Centre

This summer, city centre gastropub The James Monro is furthering its support for conservation charity The National Wildflower Centre by teaming up once again to create a selection of flowery specials to infuse their new menu with a little summer romance. Once fashionable in Victorian times, adding flowers to food is again in vogue.

Lucinda Antal, development manager at the National Wildflower Centre in Knowsley, says: “Both The James Monro and the National Wildflower Centre really want to encourage people to grow their own food and get excited about cooking with freshly grown flowers and ingredients that they wouldn’t usually employ in their every day cooking, and it doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.”

For a limited time only, Head Chef at The James Monro, Paul Fuller will create a selection of specials using wildflowers, to be served alongside the gastropub’s new Summer menu.

He said: “We will be adding wildflowers such as nastertiums and marigolds to our classic pizza base to create a delicious, delicate, Summery flavour.

"Nastertiums have a peppery, watercress flavour whereas marigolds taste fresh and citrusy. We will also serve potted lamb with a rose petal rub and cous cous.

"At The James Monro, we’re using flowers as a gourmet ingredient rather than just a garnish!”
