Thornton Hall Hotel’s award-winning restaurant, The Lawns, is celebrating after being given the highest score in The Mersey Partnership’s Taste Liverpool scheme.
The Lawns achieved a score of 91 per cent after a visit from one of The Mersey Partnership tourist board’s secret Taste Liverpool diners – the best score of 63 reviewed across Merseyside.
The assessor marked the two AA Rosette restaurant in nine categories, including Cleanliness, Bar, Food and Food Service, with The Lawns receiving a maximum 100 per cent mark in the Hospitality category.
The ‘Highest Quality Assured’ award was presented to new executive chef David Gillmore and the hotel’s general manager Geoff Dale, by The Mersey Partnership’s Business Improvement Manager Elaine Nelson.
Geoff said: “This is a terrific independent endorsement of the quality we work so hard to achieve, and we are delighted to find out that our score was 91 per cent”.
“We have invested heavily in The Lawns with a £160,000 refurbishment as we know there is a real demand for a genuine fine dining experience on the Wirral and in Merseyside. Here is proof that The Lawns is one of the leading restaurants in the region.”
The assessor said in his report that the bar and drinks area is “well presented in a contemporary style with enhanced lighting”, while the restaurant is “a more historic room with some excellent finishes”. Members of staff have a “friendly and conversational manner” and are “well presented throughout”.
There was further praise for the food, with “a very good range of dishes... all excellently presented with excellent imagination. Menus show good culinary skills with the chef wishing to show a modern twist on traditional dishes.”
Geoff added: “There are many very pleasing comments in the report, however we were also keen to continually improve. We will take on board all the assessor’s comments and use them towards delivering the best possible service for our guests. We are aiming to be the best fine dining experience in the region and this award is a step towards that goal. The hotel, restaurant and bar teams work so hard and they deserve this award – well done to everyone.”
