City centre gastropub, The James Monro will be celebrating all things quintessentially English with an event dedicated to English wine and food pairings this month.
The pub and dining room, situated on Tithebarn Street, will be celebrating the growing demand for English wine with a talk by guest sommeliers, along with English wine and food pairings from the new James Monro summer menu.
The event, which will be taking place on Thursday 17th June, will be hosted by guest sommeliers Douglas Lowe and Nick Thomas, from Wigan based Origin Wines, who will talk diners through their personal selection of English wines and will expertly pair them with a two-course meal from the new seasonal menu.
Wine Sommelier, Douglas Lowe, commented: “The demand for English wine is at all time high and the quality and reputation of wines is improving due to better growing conditions. English sparkling wines have been the most successful, with some versions scoring above top champagne in blind tastings.
“The aim of the event will be about showcasing the best of British and flying the flag for both English wine and the best English produce being served up at the James Monro.”
Group Manager, Ian Price added: “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with guest sommeliers to showcase the best of English food and drink produce.
"English wines are now becoming quite a niche market and the quality of sparkling wines is phenomenal. We source all our produce locally and will be asking diners to raise a glass and show their support for some of England’s finest wine and food produce.”
The English Wine and Food Pairings event will start at 7pm, with a ‘Meet the Sommelier’ introduction over a sparkling wine and two tasting wines, before a two-course meal from the James Monro summer menu, including a complimentary glass of wine with each course.
The price is £29.95. For further information or to make a reservation, call The James Monro on: 0151 236 9700 or visit www.thejamesmonro.com
