City centre gastropub, The James Monro is helping to create an urban haven for wildflower habitats in Liverpool after signing up to support conservation charity, The National Wildflower Centre.
The pub and dining room, which is situated at the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district in Tithebarn Street, will be supporting the charity and visitor attraction with the introduction of wildflower hanging baskets and window boxes at the venue to help encourage new wildlife habitats in the city centre.
The James Monro’s sister venue, The Monro in Duke Street will also be supporting the charity’s ‘Get Growing’ project with a new ‘Grow your Own” facility in the venue’s beer garden, where The Monro’s team of chefs will grow wildflowers, along with herbs and vegetables to use in dishes at both venues.
The National Wildflower Centre is an award-winning, charitable visitor attraction situated in Knowsley’s Court Hey Park. The family friendly venue was founded by environmental charity – Landlife and opened to the public in 2001.
The venue consists of a RIBA award-winning concrete building where visitors can view the wild beauty of the centre in a rooftop meadow. The facility also houses a mix of refurbished buildings and new architecture, where the public can learn how to grow wildflowers in their own garden or yard through regular demonstrations and events at the centre. The facility also houses a beautiful wildflower nursery and grows around 60 species of plants.
Group Manager Ian Price said: “We’re thrilled to be doing our bit to promote new wildflower habitats in the city centre and support a national charity which not only promotes the conservation of local wildlife but serves as an important education facility for the local community too.
"We hope our efforts will encourage other people in the community to grow their own wildflowers and support the important work of the centre.”
Lucinda Antal, Development Manager at the National Wildflower Centre, added: “We’re delighted to have the support of two major city eateries and showcase the important work of the charity in the city centre.
"The aim of the charity is to raise awareness about the importance of wildflowers to our environment and educate the public on the creation of new wildflower habitats. By promoting new places for wildflowers to thrive, we are playing an important part in preserving our native species and encouraging wildlife to flourish.”
