Two of the Nation’s favourite foods are set to go head to head in a battle to tantalize the tastebuds.

It’s time for the people of Liverpool to decide whether they are Team Fish & Chips or Team Kebab.

To mark the 150th anniversary of fish & chips, next year, the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) are marking this event with a year of promotional activities.

These activities, which include staging a re-enactment of the marriage of fish & chips, will take place locally and nationally and will celebrate the history of the traditional fish & chips dish.

However, hot on the heels of this is the search for the Golden Kebab winner; once again the search scouers the Nation for each regions top kebab spot.

The Silver Kebab award winners are judged on extremely important criteria such as: appearance, distance to taxi rank, nearest pub/bar, queue factor, and of course, kebab breath-o-meter.

The ten regional winners will then compete to win the prestigious national WKD Golden Kebab Award.

Champion of the kebab, Ben McFarland says:

“We really need the kebab lovers of Liverpool to get on Facebook and tell us about the best kebab shops in town”.

But with the Governments emphasis on reducing obesity in the UK, and encouraging healthy eating - which is better for us the kebabs or fish & chips?

Speaking to Click Liverpool Denis Dodds from the National Federation of Fish Friers said:

“There’s always room in the market for a range of fast food and after all, variety is the spice of life, so they say.

“But studies have shown that the good old British favourite, traditional fish and chips, actually have less calories and less fat than other takeaway foods.

“That includes pizzas, curries, Chinese, burgers and doner kebabs, so fish and chips are the healthier option all around.

“What’s more, we won at 5-a-side football at the Battle of the Great British Takeaways during National Kebab week 2003. Perhaps our opponents had eaten too many pre match kebabs!”

So,now it’s time for the People of Liverpool to decide which corner they are in –traditional fish & chips or the Kebab.
