“Comedy Hell”, Liverpool’s new bright and brash comedy venue, will open its doors in the heart of the city centre on Friday 19th February.
Housed in the spectacular cavernous basement of a large Victorian building on Sir Thomas Street (next to the Met Quarter), it is Liverpool’s largest and only purpose built comedy venue, located beneath the newly opened Lenny’s Smoke Bar and Grill.
With delicious food available before and after the laughter, this spectacular 1920s New York prohibition style eaterie also houses a VIP cocktail lounge and nightclub. A classy, speakeasy bar set to revive the romance and secrecy of the era when drinking alcohol and dining out was an illicit activity.
“Comedy Hell” – sponsored by Hell Drinks - is the brainchild of Liverpool’s film industry veteran, Paul Grant, who has teamed up with top London producers, Purple Cactus, to bring the best of British and transatlantic cutting edge comedy to the city.
Paul is a self-confessed ‘comedy anorak’ and cites Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce, and Richard Prior as his idols in the field. As well as showcasing familiar top level talent, ‘Comedy Hell’ aims to break the best of emerging comedians on the circuit.
Comedy Hell Managing Director Paul Grant said: “We are committed to the art of comedy and comedians, and with our ‘Lion’s Den’ Open Mike Nights, and ‘Stand ups Anonymous’ evenings, we’ll be giving the up and coming a chance to really cut their teeth at a top class venue.
The venue itself will be Liverpool’s largest dedicated to comedy – with its main auditorium accommodating over 200 audience members.
Paul added: “Our sister venue ‘Lenny’s smoke bar & grill’ will offer our comedy audience a chance to wine and dine in style before and after the show, and provide a complete ‘night out’ package.
”At Comedy Hell, we are looking to expand both the numbers, and, perhaps, types of people, coming to watch Stand Up comedy in Liverpool.
“If you have never been to a comedy show before, we want you! It is surely one of the best nights out you can have.
“And, putting our money where our mouth is, we are slashing our prices by 50% for the first two weeks, and then 30% for the following two weeks.”
