Restaurateur Paul Heathcote has receivied an MBE from the Queen in a Buckingham Palace.

The Bolton-born chef was recognised earlier this year in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to the hospitality industry.

He will joined a host of other big names at the investiture ceremony in London today 17th November.

Commenting on his MBE, Paul said: “It's an honour to be recognised in this manner for doing something I really love.

“It hasn’t been an easy year for anyone in the hospitality industry but this award isn’t just for me, it is for the hundreds of hard-working people who have and who continue to support me on a daily basis.

“From the beginning we set very high standards and the whole team has worked incredibly hard to maintain this.”

Since opening his first restaurant, The Longridge, in Longridge near Preston, in 1989 when he was 29, Paul has become a regular face on TV cooking shows, has published two books; his best seller Rhubarb & Blackpudding and the most recent book called Heathcotes at Home and designed a cookware range exclusively for Dunelm.

Paul has a portfolio of restaurants including London Road in Alderley Edge, Cheshire; Simply Heathcotes in Liverpool, Manchester’s Spanish-themed Grado; the Grill Room in Preston; plus the popular pizza and pasta brand, The Olive Press, which has sites across the North West including Liverpool, Leeds, Bolton, Cheadle Hulme and Clitheroe.

The 1994 Egon Ronay Guide nominated Paul Chef of the Year and he received his second Catey Award in 1997 for Independent Restaurateur of the Year.

Paul has been praised for his participation in the Adopt a School scheme, which to date has seen more than 350 visits to schools across the North West and teaches school children more about food and healthy eating, along with his chairing of the National Young Chef Young Waiter competition.
