The food, service and atmosphere at the city's first authentic "Italian fish cafe" are hard to beat. My friend and I visited on a cold and windy Wednesday evening and received a very warm and receptive welcome.
The restaurant, which is centrally located in the busy metropolitan area of Bold Street aims to attract shoppers, daily commuters, locals and foreign visitors to the city.
The Menu at Italian Club Fish certainly does what it says on the tin and offers a vast variety of different fish dishes from oysters to tuna, calamari to lemon sole.
The restaurant is bright and cosy with a contemporary feel.
There is a large downstairs dining area, along with traditional wooden tables and chairs and specially commissioned paintings of beautiful Italy adorn the walls.
To start, I had gamberoni aglio e olio (pan fried king prawns tossed in garlic, fresh chili, lemon, parsley and extra virgin olive oil) whilst my friend opted for carpaccio di tonno (fresh slices of tuna in balsamic vinaigrette) both of which oozed flavour and tasted quite delicious.
We could not wait to sample our main courses, I decided to experiment with a vegetarian option of spaghetti al pomodoro fresco (spaghetti with fresh tomatoes, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and basil) which was cooked to perfection.
My friend on the other hand went straight for the fish (with pasta that is). She had tagliolini ai gamberi (fresh thin egg pasta with king prawns, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and fresh tomato) which I'm told was delightful.
The sublime quality of the main ingredients, plus the subtleties of the oil and herbs used, made these truly dishes to savour.
Service was friendly and very attentive, a surprising feat as the restaurant was jam packed on a windy evening.
Water, bread and any other requirements were replenished quickly and without fuss or intrusion.
The reasonably priced menu and relaxed layout caters for a wide audience, from single diners and couples through to larger groups including families.
For diners who prefer a meaty choice the original Mediterranean style cafe The Italian Club restaurant, under the same ownership, is located just a few doors down.
We will definitely return to Italian Club Fish and would recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a fresh experience in the city centre.
