A Liverpool Indian restaurant has named as the best curry houses in Merseyside.

Gulshan on Aigburth Road received the award from acclaimed food commentator and international curry guru Pat Chapman.

Published within the Cobra Good Curry Guide 2013, Mr Chapman spoke fondly of Grassendale business having witnessed Gulshan’s expansion from its early days in the mid-eighties.

He said: “I’m delighted to include Gulshan in the Guide. It takes an enormous amount of dedication and love to maintain the standards that Gulshan has consistently achieved since I first came across this family-run business, decades ago.

“The food, the ambience and the welcome all add up to a very enticing proposition for the consumer.”

Jad Rahman, whose grandfather opened Liverpool’s first Indian restaurant in 1961, said: “Our family are extremely proud of this award and would like to thank Mr Chapman for considering us in the first place.

"Our emphasis has always been on the three things that matter most…the quality of food, ambience and customer service.

"We’ve innovated over the years to keep up with what our customers have asked for and also in view of the competition.

"In spite of diversifying with our offer now including a tapas menu and a mezzanine bar dedicated to cocktails, we’ve remained true to our roots and values and are delighted with this industry accolade.”
