The Malmaison has become a home for fine dining amongst the city's well heeled movers and shakers - and Click Liverpool decided to pay a return visit to sample the Thursday Steak Night menu.
The brasserie staff were wonderful hosts and delightfully informative about the subtle nuances of the menu and locally sourced ingredients throughout our meal.
After being seated with a soothing view of the dock's waterway, our waitress Jess directs us towards the daiquiris to cool off from the early summer heatwave outside.
We had enjoyed a relaxing stroll from the Pier Head past the Museum and right along to the strident gothic charms of the self styled third Liver Bird rising from the Princes Dock.
Liverpool is home to the first Mal to be built from scratch and the plum bar and brasserie were a welcome addition to the city's offering of waterfront attractions.
The brasserie has proven to be a popular haunt and the tables filled up as the evening passed.
We struck up a conversation with the couple next to us and being regulars they let slip that they'd spotted Sir Paul McCartney recently enjoying a trip to the restaurant. What's good enough for Macca is good enough for us.
The soundtrack for The Mal's evening diners heading to their tables was an upbeat mix of 70s soul and funk grooves, perfect for tearing up the dance floor and into a steak.
For starters we enjoyed the Quayle eggs and the asparagus, topped with a poached egg. Jess recommended a glass of the big bodied red wine, La Rioja Alta, which warmed our palates for the prime cut.
The Steaks were divine. Forget the butter sauce, the sumptuous rump was cooked to perfection and so tender, it melted in my mouth. The side orders of spinach and The Mal's Home made coleslaw held their own against the superb entrees.
Jess pressed us to try the deserts, (we didn't put up much of a fight) and tucked into the Baked New York Cheesecake with blueberries, and topped it all off with a simply amazing Black Forest cocktail and an Espresso Martini.
The cocktails are a must try and the coffee infused Martini perked us up for another stroll home past Liverpool's waterfront.
