The Hub Alehouse and Kitchen - review

The Hub is an ideal date venue, setting the scene with soul brothers Al Green, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke providing the perfect soundtrack for easy conversation and a relaxed, romantic atmosphere.

The Hub was designed as a traditional alehouse with a nouveau twist and has a delicious range of wines and ales.

It's also a great people-watching spot, its large convex frontage with the windows looking out onto Hanover Street and Liverpool One.

For starters, we shared Thai fish cakes with chili and salt and pepper calamari.

I enjoyed the Fish Pie featuring no less than four local fish - salmon, prawns, cod and haddock topped with wholegrain mustard mashed potato.

My partner devoured the 8oz Steak Burger topped with bacon and cheddar cheese, with a man-size size of fries and 'Hub-slaw.'

The vibe was contagious and on a Wednesday night when we visited the Hub was filled with happy couples.

We were satisfied with our main courses, but felt it our reviewer's duty to sample the desserts of apple, pear and blueberry crumble crumble and a warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Both were delicious and rounded off a perfect meal with a winning dessert.

The service was attentive and thoughtful throughout. The Hub is highly recommended, we will definitely be returning to sample more culinary delights in the near future.
