Upon first glance Bold Street's latest food outlet Mexigo looks similar to other well-known chain restaurants serving up burritos in an over the counter deli style. But you really can taste the difference at Mexigo, serving up authentic mexican recipes prepared fresh every day on the premises, using British ingredients combined with Mexican chillies and spices.
For those who have yet to be initiated to the conveyor-belt style of service, it may seem complicated. But decide your way through four easy steps and the hearty grub will be in your hands.
First choose The Base. 1. Burrito - large flour tortilla with choice of filling, beans, rice, salsa, salad, cheese and sour cream or sauce (£4.95). 2. Taco - three corn tortillas with choice of filling, salsa, lettuce, cheese and sauce. (£4.95) 3. Quesadilla - your choice of filling is stuffed into a toasted tortilla and topped with melted cheese. (£4.50) 4. Taco Basket - salad bowl with your choice of filling and two flour tortillas. (£4.95) 5. Nachos - homemade corn chips loaded with a choice of toppings backed with cheese and topped with sour cream. (£4.95)
Tasty fillings range from Chipotle Chicken, Adobo Beef, Puerco Pibil (pork), Roasted Seasonal Vegetables or choose to add 50p and see Chargrilled Steak sizzle before your eyes on the Mexigo grill.
With such tempting choices after much deliberation we opted to try a Burrito each, one filled with delicious Chipotle marinated chicken breast and the other packed full of slow roasted achiote pork (Puerco Pibil).
The range of Salsa on offer is what sets Mexigo apart from its competitors, with FIVE different recipes ranging from mild to extra spicy. Having plumbed for extra spicy re-fried beans, I went for the Corn Salsa, fresh flavours came through from the mix of sweetcorn, tomato and onion while my dining companion went for a more fiery choice of Salsa Ranchera, filled with chopped jalapenos for an extra kick.
Eyeing up the other salsas, we decided to accompany our heaving burritos with Chips & Dips - Homemade corn chips with a trio of dips (£2.50). We tried Guacamole, smooth and delicious, Salsa Mexicana (medium) and Fiery Mexigo Salsa (extra spicy) which certainly did set our tastebuds on fire!
Speedy service from helpful staff means you can grab your carb-heavy delicious meal fast, either take your Mexican to go as the establishment's name suggests, or sit in amongst the ample table space Mexigo provides. With Bottled Beer and Wine available from the chiller and many Hot and Cold Drinks available you are welcome to spend as much time as you like without staff rushing you out the door.
Having launched just a few weeks ago, Mexigo has many exciting offers to reward its customers with a loyalty card for 10% off and your 8th purchase FREE.
