A romantic Italian proved that the way to heart of a Valentine's is through their stomach... via Twitter!

Disgruntled tweeters started an internet campaign demanding to know why heart-shaped pizza was not available in the UK, starting a trend on the social networking site.

Quick thinkers at Il Forno restaurant in Liverpool spotted the trend and set about creating an entire heart-shaped Valentine's menu for their loved-up customers.

General manager Attilio Sergi said: "Love is so important to Italians, especially on Valentine's Day.

"It's a crime that heart-shaped pizza isn't more widely available and the people on Twitter are right to be frustrated.

"But we have made sure our guests enjoy special romantic touches throughout their meal so hopefully no one will be left broken-hearted on Valentine's Day."

Head chef Paolo Cilli fashioned a three-course meal of tomato and mozzarella focaccia, spicy salami Valentine's pizza and a lover's strawberry cheesecake - all in the shape of love hearts.

Passionate Paolo added: "Couples deserve something special on Valentine's Day and everything we cook is made with love.

"And everyone knows the way to someone's heart is through their stomach so fingers crossed we might see some marriage proposals after dinner!"
