Review: Chinese New Year at Buffet Club, Prescot Street, Liverpool

Being a huge fan of Chinese food, every year I say to myself that I will go to a Chinese restaurant during their New Year celebrations but have never fulfilled my promise.

This year, Click Liverpool were kindly invited to attend the All You Can Eat Buffet Club Chinese Restaurant on Prescot Street to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

I leapt at the chance to take along my family to join in the fun. We were greeted with a warm welcome from co-owner Pete Soon. The decor was bright and clean and the waiting staff were polite and courteous throughout the evening.

As I entered, I was pleased to see a sign stating that the Buffet Club was winner of the Best Value Award Winner at Liverpool Food and Drink Festival 2010. It soon became apparent why once we were shown to our seats and the starters arrived.

We were given an amazing choice of Soup, Ribs, Spring Rolls, Sesame Toast and Salt & Pepper Ribs, which I must say were my favourite, but all options were delicious and we were not disappointed.

Soon we were entertained by the superb vibrantly coloured Chinese Dragons, each performed a traditional Dragon Dance to scare away evil spirits. We were informed that the dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck.

Diners were startled as huge firecrackers boomed as the two Dragons paraded around the restaurant to the beat of the music, making an effort to go to every single table. The dancers were totally fantastic and everybody, young and old, thoroughly enjoyed it.

After all the excitement, we were certainly ready to start our main course.

There was a mouth-watering display of freshly made dishes on offer with which we were spoiled for choice. Classics such as Chicken Curry, Pork Chops in Black Pepper Sauce, Egg Fried Rice and Stir Fried Noodles were all complemented by more unusual choices such as Sweet Chilli Fish and Fresh Roasted Char Sui Pork.

We sampled a little bit of everything and I have to say that my husband was so delighted he went back three times to fill his plate!

Situated opposite the Royal Liverpool Hospital, just on the outskirts of the City Centre, this restaurant is a hidden treasure. A number of car parks are just a stone throw away and it is an ideal place to take the family, have a business meeting or pop in for a quick lunchtime snack.

There is also a full take away menu available, for which I will definitely be giving them a call in the near future.

Prices start from £5.95 for an adult lunchtime menu (12pm-4.45pm) and £7.95 for the evening menn, and children under 9 dine for £3.75 lunchtime and £5.75 evening.

To sum up my visit, great food, great atmosphere, warm, friendly staff, great value for money.
