Seven of Liverpool's favourite eateries are in the running to become Britain’s favourite Chinese restaurant.

City centre restaurants Mandarin, Mei Mei, North Garden, Phoenix Palace, Tai Pan, Tso’s and Yuet Ben have all been nominated for the title.

Almost 500 Chinese restaurants across the UK have been nominated and entered into Tsingtao’s Legacy of Taste 2010 competition and the pressure is now on, as voting opens to the public to select four finalists.

TV cook Ching He Huang will lead a panel of experts to judge which restaurant will be crowned The Legacy of Taste 2010 when voting closes in Autumn, and it is down to fans of each restaurant to ensure they make the date by placing enough votes to put them in the top four most popular.

Tsingtao’s Legacy of Taste competition is now in its third year and was created for the public to reward the restaurants that they believe set the best standards for Chinese dining.

Commenting on the nomination, Ching said: “To have been nominated for Tsingtao’s Legacy of Taste competition is a fantastic achievement for these restaurants and it’s a real testament to the efforts of the managers and staff in remaining faithful to the heritage of Chinese cooking, which is so important.”

The competition aims to highlight the importance of quality and attention to detail in Chinese restaurants, taking into consideration elements such as food, service and surroundings.

Ching added: “The main challenge now will be to ensure the local customers of these restaurants enable their fantastic work to be recognised, by voting for them and making sure they earn a well deserved place in the final.”

On October 28th the winning restaurant will be presented with The Legacy of Taste 2010 award by Ching at an exclusive ceremony in central London’s Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton.

Finalists and guests will also get to view never before seen footage of the judging process at a private cinema screening.
