Shed Seven made a long overdue return to Liverpool with the band having missed out the city during their 2009 tour dates.

This was much to the crowd’s dismay as well, as when it was mentioned by singer Rick Witter he got booed. To which he replied “you’re booing us for not playing last time even though we’re here now?”

Although, there was nothing malicious about these boos - it was just the audiences way of saying don’t miss Liverpool out again.

With a career in the music industry that has spanned over two decades there was no shortage of crowd pleasing tunes.

The set list was back to back Shed Seven hits, and in the words of Sum 41 ‘it was all killer and no filler’.

The crowd belted out all the hits right back at the band. And during a few technical hiccups during On Standby the crowd momentarily took Rick’s place as front man, filling in for him till normal business resumed.

Shed Seven are an unparalleled live band that demonstrates as much vigour now as they did the last time I caught them live around ten years ago.

And Rick Witter shows no fear as he unabashedly lunges himself into the audience; whilst a roadie promptly comes to his rescue.

The most important thing to note about Shed Seven is that they are an extremely under-rated band.

Although they’ve always had a huge loyal following, which is very much re-iterated at the Academy gig, it seems the music industry politics may have held the band back a little.

Or maybe the band’s lyrical and musical craftsmanship just wasn’t fully appreciated.

Either way when Shed Seven launch into On Standby, Getting Better and Chasing Rainbows there aren’t many other bands around that could compare.

From the minute the band stepped on-stage with Bully Boy to the Chasing Rainbows closer they whipped the crowd into a frenzy, and it is no exaggeration that every song was a sing-a-long classic.

And the best part was that the band looked like they were enjoying the gig as much as the crowd were; giving a euphoric performance that marks them down as an unmissable live act.

I concur! I was there and it was an awesome gig. Every song a classic and Sheds are one of the few bands who replicate their records live!
