The term 'Kop' has become something of commonplace in football terrace culture. Virtually every ground has a designated home end which they christen 'the Kop'.
But in the eyes of many, not least Liverpool fans, there is only one Spion Kop and it stands proudly on Walton Breck Road, continuing to dominate the Anfield skyline over 104 years since its inception.
To coincide with the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Spion Kop Hill, from which the terrace's name is derived, Sport Media have released an updated version of 'Oh...I Am a Liverpudlian and I Come From The Spion Kop' which is compulsive reading for any Reds' supporter.
Compiled by Chris McLoughlin, a Merseyside journalist and editor of The Kop magazine, the book explores the phenomenon that surrounds the world's most famous football terrace with stories and anecdotes from the people who remember it fondest.
The all-seated Kop has also created its own legacy over the past 16 years, which is retold by those who were a part of the antics that practically wrote the headlines and filled column inches in the national press.
Ex-players, referees, journalists and fans - the people that made the Kop what it was and still is - all offer their own abiding memories about how a concrete mound in North Liverpool played a very integral part in their lives and, in most cases, shaped who they are today.
No other football club in England can generate the passion and noise like Liverpool. No other stadium can boast a history or worldwide profile like Anfield. This book highlights why The Shed, Stretford End and even the Gwladys Street will never be able to rival the Kop
'Oh...I Am a Liverpudlian and I Come From The Spion Kop' is available from all good book stores from Friday 1st April 2010 and online now from www.merseyshop.com, priced £8.99
Author Chris McLoughlin will be signing copies of the book in Waterstones' Liverpool One branch at 2.00pm on Monday 19th April.
