Review: Well Red magazine

For the past 15 years there has been a gaping hole in the market for a publication truly representative of Liverpool supporters.

Not since the short-lived Xtra Time ceased publication in 1995 have Kopites had a voice in the mainstream media to convey, though not through the want of trying by fanzine writers.

Billed as "the voice of the people that count at Liverpool Football Club", Well Red magazine plugs this gap perfectly.

With a fanzine feel about it, the sharp, no-nonsense design is reflective of its content with exclusive interviews and features that have already made it a success on pre-orders alone.

No issue is shirked; whether it be cases for and against offering Rafael Benitez a stay of execution in the Anfield dugout or the failings by a small section of the media to expose the severity of the club's high-profile off-field issues.

In-depth analysis of current affairs blends well with a nostalgia section that is packed with various pieces about the club's illustrious past including the experiences of supporters who were able to live and breathe events such as the 7-0 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur in 1978.

Interviews with Anfield legends and supporters who happen to be in the public eye, rather than 'celebrity fans', have made issue one compulsive reading for those who uphold the club's culture and traditions to the letter.

Well Red magazine will be hitting the shelves of newsagents in Merseyside, North Wales and the Republic of Ireland from this Thursday and is well worth £2.70 of any Liverpool supporter's hard-earned money.
