World Museum Liverpool is hosting a superb new interactive exhibition - Plantastic!
Aimed at 7-14 year olds there are plenty of activities to keep young and older visitors entertained.
And adults who may be accompanying children need not worry as it’s great for big kids too!
As soon as you step into the Plantastic! exhibition you enter a magical world where flowers, seeds and trees come to life.
This is designed to demonstrate how nature interacts not only with humans but with animals and insects too.
There are forty great interactive mechanical and multi-media exhibits and games to help you uncover the secrets of this amazing world. These include a giant dandelion that visitors can blow into and watch the seeds fly away.
The huge Venus fly trap allows you to place your hand in and watch its jaws close on you.
There’s also a mechanical flower bed where you are able to smell the lovely scents of a collection of flowers.
A bee simulator, which is a little bit like Mario Kart only you’re a bee and have to collect pollen, is lots of fun.
I have to admit there were seven year olds who completed the course in 72 seconds whereas it took me about 4 minutes. Eek!
Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins was in Liverpool supporting Plantastic! Speaking to Click Liverpool he said the exhibition was particularly good because of its interactivity, which makes nature more accessible for children and easier to understand.
“Plants are amazing things but kids need to be hands on, so that’s why I back something like this 100% because it gets kids thinking about things and that’s very important.”
Plantastic! is a great family friendly exhibition and is definitely worth a visit. It runs until 5th September 2010 at World Museum Liverpool.
