Alien Wars is the new live action experience at Wirral's Spaceport, you are invited to 'Confront your worst fears' in a unique adventure for kids and big kids alike.

Spaceport has recently taken delivery of a live alien specimen, and we are invited to take a tour of the creature's new home.

The opportunity to build tension amongst the gathered crowd is missed as we huddle together near the gift shop, awaiting our alien encounter to begin.

Ushered into a white room, a flashing red light pulses and sirens wail as we are plunged into darkness.

Something is not right. Heartbeats increase as we are led through the dark under armed escort by trained marines.

The creature has escaped...

Instructed to stick tightly together, we are fiercely told there there will be no time to wait for slow movers.

It is every man, woman and child for themselves as our survival is threatened at every turn.

The simulation lasts for approximately 15 minutes, during which time you are barked orders to run, while special effects and convincing aliens genuinely spur you to pick up your pace.

However, "Wars" is a little misleading a title for what is essentially a chance for participants to blindly navigate pitch black corridors. Fear for me was largely induced by the prospect of tripping over someone else's feet.

Cynicism aside, if you can suspend your disbelief for 15 minutes it is as exhilarating for an adult as I would imagine it is for a 10 year old.

I applaud the marines and aliens for creating a genuine spirit of urgency. No child will want to feel left out during playground re-enactments over the coming months. The youngest boy in our party shrieked with delight at his first glimpse of the alien.

Alien Wars is a full immersion experience and as such it is not advisable to take any kids who are likely to have nightmares (Spaceport's advice is no under 8's).

With only 15 minutes of fun on offer, if you are travelling far, it would be a good idea to take in some of the other activities Wirral has to offer, such as The Blue Planet Aquarium or the U Boat story.

While Alien Wars is a bit pricey at £9.50 for an adult and £6 for a child, the family ticket is good value priced at £26.50. Call 0151 330 1000 for ticket information.

Hurry, don't miss out on this thrilling adventure, Alien Wars will run from 2.30pm - 6pm every day until 6th September.

Spaceport, at Seacombe ferry terminal, Wirral has ample car parking available. Alternatively, it is a short ferry ride from Liverpool, Pier Head, or is easily accessible via train and bus.
