Lower Than Atlantis bring their take on melodic hardcore to the O2 Academy 2 this evening. This Watford band is currently working on their fourth album having recently signed to Island records.
As well as having festivals such as Slam Dunk, Camden Crawl and Download lined up for the summer Lower Than Atlantis are hot on everyone’s lips at the moment.
This is certainly prevalent in the O2 Academy tonight as there is a buzz in the air and the venue is almost at capacity. An enthusiastic crowd inhabits the O2 Academy; they are a dedicated following - moshing, crowd – surfing and singing along respectively.
Highlights include Far Q and Uni 9MM. Uni 9MM is poignant as it is singer Mike Duce questioning whether being in the band while all his friends went to university was the right decision; and he dedicates the song to everyone who thinks “what the f**k am I doing.”
Mike Duce asks “do you like the Foo Fighters?” Hell yeah, would be the response to that. Lower Than Atlantis then launch into a medley of Foo Fighters songs consisting of Everlong and Pretender.
Duce finds the most novel way of asking an audience to clap along ever; asking them to put their arms in the air, and then imagine it is Pancake Day. But, you have a lumpy pancake, so you have to beat the shit out of that thing with your hands.
Next Duce asks the crowd to get their lighters out for this one, then says that everyone has mobile phones so use the light on that as well; the band then slow the pace down as they play Another Sad Song.
Lower Than Atlantis rocked the Academy tonight, and Mike Duce, for the record, definitely made the right decision about not going to university.
