Daytona Lights come to the Zanzibar with their shoe groove delicious pop sounds.
This five piece have been compared to the likes of The Beach Boys, Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Aztec Camera. They produce thoughtful songs that can boast the lads singing some beautiful harmonies.
It is probably easy to under estimate how difficult it is to sing so in harmony, yet Daytona Lights pull it off with ease- at least they make it look easy.
It’s no surprise then that they’ve played live sessions and had airplay on radio stations such as: Radio 1, Radio 2, XFM and BBC 6 Music. They also had a stint on Hollyoakes where they played their songs and themselves in the show.
They’ve gathered support from John Robb, Stephen Fry and Boy George. And they’ve worked with legendary producer Steve Levine on their debut album This Modern Landscape.
Highlights include White Horses, Lillian and At Least I know I Tried, but in all fairness there isn’t a bad song in the set tonight.
Their final song Kings is another reflective tune and highlights the mature approach to song-writing that Daytona Lights posses including the line: ‘ If a fool becomes a king, what becomes of him.’ Quite a poignant thought to leave on, I guess we all know fools who get a little bit too much power.
Daytona Lights live up to the huge hype and seeing them live with their unique twist on the sound of early 80’s guitar bands and harmonious Beach Boys influenced vocal. They deliver a fresh dynamic to today’s influx of indie guitar bands.
