The Vermin Suicides album Yeahman It’s…is doused in dup punk with a sprinkle of The Clash and makes for an irresistible album.
Formed from members of The Dead Class, 0898 and Dutch Porn Thursday they are a juxtaposition - a band that do not seem to take themselves too seriously, yet they are not a joke band.
It is possibly the years of experience this four piece hold between them that allow them to pull this off with such panache, and what makes songs such as Um Bongo and Banzai so unexpectedly brilliant.
If you’re going to put on a gig you’ll want this band on the line-up and if you’re throwing a party you most definitely want this CD on your stereo; it’s a contagious album that combines humour ( Banzai, Um Bongo), longing (State of the Art, All I Want) and more introspective offerings such as Everything Is Everything.
There is also a cover of Snuff’s ‘Keep The Beat’ with The Dead Class front man Villy Raze joining the band for guest vocals. It’s a good cover choice that fits perfectly with the Vermin’s sound and one that stays true to the original.
The Vermin Suicides debut album took the band 18 months to make, which is telling as obviously a lot of work has gone into this album.
They are an accomplished band and impressively there are no fillers, every song fully deserves its place on the album.
The Vermin Suicides are one of those rare bands that produce an array of eclectic songs, yet each track seamlessly flows into the next.
They are also one of few bands that can pull off Tarzan like wails throughout songs like Um Bongo and make it seem perfectly fitting. This album should definitely be on everyone’s wish list.
