You can’t keep a good show down and the popularity of what was The Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll pantomime is sure to be further enhanced by what will be for the time being The Playhouse Rock ‘n’ Roll panto. Slicker than a tanker full of melted butter and sillier than a woman in a dress, this is a show that is perfect, all round family festive fun that is sure to have audiences rocking with laughter.

Adam Keast & Francis Tucker play ugly sisters Titiana and Wilhelmina with great verve engaging with their audience on a level that seems to sink lower – in a good way –the longer the show goes on. Be warned, gents, you sit in the front row at your peril !!!!

Rebecca Bainbridge is delightfully detestable as Maud the Wicked Stepmother, who’s nastiness is only outshone by her utterly hilarious performance and a nice line in frocks.

Yet in fairness it is the new comers who really shine and none more so than Chris Lindon as Buttons, Sarah Vezmar as Cinders or the consummately charming Charming, Robert Gilbert, who has a singing voice that needs to be heard to be truly appreciated.

Above all, though, it is Jonny Bower in a multitude of roles, but most memorably as a somewhat random Tin Tin, who really steals the show with a terrific all round performance that is worth the admission price alone. The man gets everywhere, delivering his lines with gusto and cranking up the fun at every turn.

This without question is the one pantomime everybody who sees it is bound to enjoy, not least for the stunning costumes, superb set and string of rocking hits played live on stage by the multi-talented cast. Slick, stylish and as subtle as a splat of sprouts on a cold Christmas pudding, the spirit of the Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto lives on at The Playhouse. Hurrah!

9/10
