Tonight The Shipping Forecast plays host to Camden based band Tribes, as well as Liverpool's very own Fly With Vampires and Beat Marauder.

Beat Marauder are the first band on the bill at The Shipping Forecast tonight. After having a year long hiatus they are now well and truly back; and to prove it they have attracted an enthusiastic crowd to The Hold.

Their sound is that of a blues/rock band, yet I would definitely say that they posses a slight element of rockabilly. This is simply because the energy of the band and the addition of a trumpet player add a real kick to the songs, which culminate beautifully in The Goose Is Up - one of the sets many highlights.

Next we have Fly With Vampires who are fresh from their Sound City gig supporting Sound of Guns at St. George’s Hall. To those familiar with Fly With Vampires it is really no surprise that they secured that slot as they are not far behind Sound of Guns in the anthem making stakes.

However, it is hard to believe that Fly With Vampires are unsigned, as they are such a fully formed band in the sense that they are writing songs that would take pride of place on any indie band’s album. The Bed You Made, Everything But Sleep, Not Wasted On The Young, and Whispers are all sublimely frantic highlights of the set.

Another highlight would have to be the drummer who strikes the drums so ferociously that he makes Animal from The Muppets look like he’s slacking.

If the band hasn’t already won you over at this point then the Corey Feldman, circa Stand by Me, skin on the bass drum should seal the deal.

Tribes have been generating a lot of buzz recently having signed to Island Records earlier in the year. Whilst their track We Were Children received Zane Lowe’s hottest record in the world accolade.

As Tribes take to the stage it dawns on me how ridiculously good looking they all are, which is beside the point but it is slightly distracting. However, I do manage to put those shallow musings to one side and concentrate on the songs.

Admittedly, Zane Lowe was right We Were Children is pretty damn good. In fact all the songs are; Girlfriend, the more brooding Sappho and the hauntingly beautiful Nightdriving are all highlights and they all emphasize Tribes song-writing skills.

The band have been compared to Nirvana which in all fairness couldn’t be further from the mark, they possibly have been influenced by Nirvana but they don’t share the same heavy sound and they are much less intense.

Another comparison has been an ‘early Razorlight’ which is probably more accurate, but again I’m not entirely convinced.

Tribes sound like a band that have risen from the ashes of a post - Libertines fall out. They also possess an ability to sound familiar without actually sounding like anyone other than themselves; which is a nice quality to have as it makes them likable but still individual enough to stand out from a plethora of indie bands.

Tribes are definitely going places, and it is not just because they have the Industry backing and they get the girls swooning – it is because they have the talent to back it up.
