Unfortunately, I managed to get to the O2 Academy just in time to miss the first support act –Dustland. Straight out of the much renowned Delta Sonic stable Dustland, according to word of mouth, were amazing.

Next up were David’s Lyre, the band have been creating a buzz lately and were recently in session for Huw Stephens’ Radio One show.

I say they, however, David’s Lyre consists of just one man; although tonight he has brought a band along with him.

David’s Lyre has a slight look of Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood about him - it must be the cheekbones. As you can imagine this makes for a striking looking man, if the music doesn’t work out he could always become a model.

However, he doesn’t need to worry about other career options just yet, as the music most definitely is working out.

Tear Them Down and In Arms are both highlights of the set, and are crafted beautifully enough to fully demonstrate David’s Lyre's psychedelic, big beat pop.

Basically, we have synthesizer-generated loops, distorted baselines and a bit of pop thrown in for good measure; with a mid to slow tempo that adds a cool vibe to the songs.

Next are headliners Chapel Club who kicked off with Surfacing, even though the song is surrounded by much contention due to the chorus being taken from Mama Cass’ Dream A Little Dream Of Me.

Anyway, that particular wrangle is over now so let’s not dwell on it; the song is still a stand out track.

The band plays- amongst other songs- Bodies, O Maybe I, After The Flood and Paper Thin.

All The Eastern Girls is probably one of the best songs of the set due to its more expeditious nature.

Even though Chapel Club are a spectacular shoegazing band, All The Eastern Girls definitely adds an extra va va vroom to the set; showing us that the band can lift themselves from the dark, brooding intensity.

Although, it is this somber demeanor that makes a very atmospheric set and makes Chapel Club a very enigmatic band.
