If it’s an alternative Christmas night out you’re after, away from the traditional Pantomime and stuffy Christmas parties, then book your tickets and go and see Terry Titter.
A fun, jam packed two hours of pure silliness, Titter will blow away the seriousness of the normal working day, and fill you with some much needed festive cheer and naff gags to last you till Boxing Day.
For those who are not familiar with Terry Titter, Liverpool comic actor Terry Kilkelly takes on several different characters throughout his one-man show.
Kilkelly has been playing the Unity Stage for the last 20 years and this year will be the seventh consecutive year that he has staged a Christmas show at Liverpool’s Unity Theatre, and it has created its own audience.
Kilkelly packs in no more then five different characters into his show, each absoulty differnet and indivdual from each other. His unique performance comes across as unrehearsed and quite stuttery, but this is how he does it.
He is brilliant at throwing in the odd one liners, which are completely irrevalent from the plot, often laughing along with the audience and bursting into spontanious song. This is a man who can hold his own, make fun of himself as well as people in the audience. If you dare to heckle or even cough at the wrong time, he will pick it up and use it.
The set looks Christmassy enough, some naff looking trees either side of the stage and a couple of boards hanging down displaying Christmas album covers of bygone years. A Punch and Judy booth stands suspiciously in one corner, giving nothing away but plays part in a hilarious sketch involving the story of baby Jesus in the second half.
Although lots of costume changes, Kilkelly doesn’t leave you alone for long, and we are left with the festive tunes of those forgotten album covers.
A slick, achingly funny and highly entertaining show, Terry Titter’s Christmas Caper is a definite alternative night out. So grab your mates and a box of tissues and book your tickets today.
