Star-struck younsters in Cheshire are being invited to strut their stuff in an contest organised by the county police force.

Cheshire Police are encouraging young people to make some noise this summer holiday with their "Upbeat" competition for wannabe singers and groups.

Prizes include a chance to win a day as a rock star, a session in a recording studio, airtime on selected radio stations and photographic and design time for an album cover.

The task is to write, perform and record a three minute song based on one of the Upbeat topics, which can be found online at www.upbeat.uk.com. This can be as part of a band, solo singer or group. The song must be original so no cover versions please! All the entries can then be viewed on the Cheshire Police YouTube page.

Cheshire Police are organising the competition to highlight a new website for young people and teenagers in Cheshire. The site provides advice on policing related matters and issues that affect young people. The website uses a variety of interactive features such as videos and online magazines.

Upbeat not only highlights on-going key issues that affect teenagers but also talks about up to date topics, ensuring the site is consistent with stories currently in the media.

The performance can be uploaded to YouTube. Simply email us the link to your video at upbeat@cheshire.pnn.police.uk. Alternatively send it to us on DVD/CD at the postal address found at the top right of this letter. Applicants will have until August 16th 2010 to send in their entries. There is no limit to the numbers of bands/groups who apply from any one school and applicants can enter as many times as they want. The judging panel will consist of a member of Cheshire Constabulary, a studio producer and three young people from local schools.

Full terms and conditions can be found at www.upbeat.uk.com or find us on Facebook.
