This was the scene when the city got the Copacabana treatment with all the feathers, seqins and hip-shaking beat of Samba with the Liverpool Carnival Night 2010.

The event, the third of its kind, drew crowds of admiring onlookers as city centre streets witnessed scenes like something from Rio De Janeiro.

Percussionists from Liverpool Samba School were among Samba dancers and bands from all over Britain who put on the show with glittering floats and exuberant costumes late into the night.

The Brazilian street party was organised by Roger and Maeve Morris, who came up with the idea after 20 years running the Liverpool Samba School.

Groups taking part included: Sambatuc Paris; Paraiso London; Oya Batucada Birmingham; Republic of Swing Manchester; Cordoa de Ouro capoeira Liverpool/Manchester;Oxiris Wirral; Manchester School of Samba; Batala Liverpool; Liverpool Samba school; St Peter and Paul’s samba group Widnes
