Football legends including Sir Geoff Hurst attended a gala dinner at Liverpool's Echo Arena last night.
The European Former Player's Association (EFPA) event was organised to highlight the support ex-professionals get after their careers are over.
World Cup winner Sir Geoff said: "For all players, football is a vital part of their lives and I'm really appreciative of the great fortune I have had in my career.
"You gain such an affection for the game and your team-mates, and it's difficult to leave behind when you stop playing."
John Barnes, Terry Venables and Sir Bobby Charlton were among the other former footballers at the dinner.
European Cup winner Vladimir Smicer was also there.
A EFPA Champions Cup six-a-side tournament takes place at the Echo Arena today (16 April), featuring Liverpool heroes Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and Ian Rush.
