Spring is definitely in our steps as we continue to march through this LEAP year of dance across the city.
We’re now over a quarter of the way through this exciting year and April is shaping up to be the best month yet.
Exciting events such as The Spring Ball at St Georges Hall and The International Day of Dance are just around the corner, with plenty of opportunity for the public to get involved.
Make sure you dust off those dancing shoes and become the stars of this month’s glittering programme of dance across the region.
Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Virshilas and her professional partner Klaus Kongsdal are to cha cha cha their way into the Great Hall at St Georges Hall on Saturday 17th April for The Spring Ball 2010.
It’s not just Katya’s TV appearances in shows such as ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, and her long list of Ballroom dance championship trophies that has catapulted her into dance stardom.
She starred in ‘Take the Lead’ alongside Antonio Banderas and critics have classed their hot and sexy tango as one of the all-time movie dance sequences.
Katya also played alongside and trained Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez and Susan Sarandon for the blockbuster ballroom dance movie ‘Shall We Dance’.
Klaus Kongsdal is no stranger to strictly fever too having taken part in Denmark’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’, the Danish version of the show.
Katya told us how she is looking forward to performing at the Spring Ball:
“We are extremely excited and honoured to be part of the Liverpool Spring Ball in the beautiful St. George’s Hall.
"It will be our first time in Liverpool but we heard some great things about it from Ricky Whittle and Natalie Lowe... to be dancing to a live band is just amazing."

Another date to remember is the 29th April when the LEAP year of dance, International Dance Day, takes place.
We’re proud to announce a full line up has been confirmed including participation from renowned local companies such as Taciturn, Movema, China Pearl and House of Suarez.
This is in addition to workshops and performances in African Dance, Tai Chi and Rock ‘n’ Roll.
The day starts at 12pm underneath the BBC screen at Clayton Square and moves at 5pm to Marks and Spencer’s shop windows and Williamson Square.
Other highlights include Moves10: Framing Motion from Wed 21st – Sun 25th April at The Bluecoat.

Another one to watch out for is My Name Is, which opens at Ormskirk’s Rose Theatre on Wednesday 28th April.
This new piece of visceral dance theatre presents the hopelessness of addiction and rigor of recovery, allowing the audience to consider the life of alcohol addicts and those that witness the powerful process of escaping drugs and alcohol. Tickets are priced at £6.50 - £8.50.
Following their huge success at the Floral Pavilion theatre this March, the Vienna Festival Ballet pirouette over to Crosby Civic Hall on Thursday 29th April at 7pm with Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
Affectionately regarded as the most popular ballet in the world, Swan Lake captures the full range of human emotions like no other; from hope to despair, terror to tenderness, and melancholy to ecstasy.
