World, Water and Life - an exhibition of artwork created by a group of young refugees and asylum seekers - is on display at Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery.
The young people explored themes from the natural world, prevalent in the work of UK artist Aubrey Williams.
Their research included handling and exploring aquatic life, shells, bugs, snails and scorpions from the collections at World Museum with an artist and museum staff.
The final artworks are inspired by Williams’ distinctive style and embedded with the symbols of the natural elements they discovered.
The project was jointly funded by The Rank Foundation and DCMS/DCFS Strategic Commissioning programme ERAS (Engaging Refugees and Asylum Seekers Project).
EMTAS (Ethnic Minority Travellers Achievement Association Service) supports the integration and achievement of young adult refugees and asylum seekers.
Aubrey Williams: Atlantic Fire runs until 11th April 2010 and seeks a new appraisal on the work of the Guyanese-born artist. The exhibition comprises of 14 paintings that demonstrate the strength of Williams’ art and the coherence and consistency of his approach to painting.
