Carnival fever is set to hit to the streets of Liverpool once again this summer with the highly anticipated return of Brouhaha International Street Festival.

The popular event, which runs from 16th to the 24th July, will see over 260 performers from around the globe heading to the city to take part in ten days of colourful carnivals, exciting festivals, and interactive community workshops.

The festival will close with the final day featuring The Liverpool International Carnival, regarded as the highlight of the calendar of events, in Princes Park on the Saturday the 24th July.

Last year, more than 40,000 people attended the festival’s main parade and organisers have promised 2010 will not disappoint. Performers are attending from Europe, the Middle east, Africa and the Caribbean to mark this year’s theme of ‘Reincarnation’ - Mixing the Race of the Nation’.

For the past 19 years, Brouhaha International has continued to offer an amazing opportunity for all ages and cultures to come together to celebrate diversity.

Giles Agis, Executive Director of Brouhaha, said of the plans for this summer: “We hope people enjoy this year’s festival as it hosts such a diverse variety of work, something for all the family.

"Our 2010 theme is fitting for the region, acknowledging how diverse communities have significantly contributed to the social and cultural landscape of Liverpool and the North West."

The festival will officially launch this forthcoming Saturday, March 27, at 4-8pm at The Contemporary Urban Centre and will give members of the public the chance to view this year’s new carnival costume designs with energetic performances from Dutch dance-troupe ‘Got Skills’ , spoken word poet Rommi Smith and live music from Janiece Myers, F.O.E, OffLicence and Batala.
