
Dream, the new landmark sculpture in St.Helens, Merseyside has picked up a prestigious Civic Trust Award.
The spectacular structure of a girl's elongated face on the site of a former Colliery, beat five other projects from the North West to win the top prize.
Situated at Junction 9 of the M62 motorway, near Liverpool, the modern £2 million bust has been recognised by the way it involved the local comunity.
The 400 tonne white public artwork was created by a group of local ex-miners and Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and stands 66 ft high (20 metres).
Councillor Richard Ferry, from St.Helens Council's Executive Member for Urban Regeneration said: "This is another great accolade for Dream and highlights the growing acclaim that the landmark sculpture is receiving.
"Such awards generate great interest in Public Art and focuses on St.Helens as a progressive location for regeneration, encouraging growth in our tourism and business sectors.
"It is a great testament to the hard work, determination and creativity of the people and communities involved in the realisation of Dream."
Other projects up for the award included; Blencow Hall, Penrith, Liverpool One, Midland Hotel, Morecambe, Lancaster, Paradise Street Pedestrian Bridge, Liverpool and Pendleton Gateway Centre, Salford.
