A must see for theatre goers as Northern Broadsides bring their invigorating style of storytelling to the Playhouse with the timeless The Canterbury Tales, performances running from 23rd - 27th March.

The Tabard Inn, London, sometime in the fourteenth century, a motley group of individuals – Knight, Cook, Miller Squire, Wife and more – gather for their pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral.

On the way, they regale each other with their colourful tales to pass the time of day, and thus unfolds one of the greatest collections of stories ever told.

Adapted by Tony nominated and Olivier award winning Mike Poulton this deliciously witty version of the classic, first toured by the RSC to rapturous reviews and public acclaim, contains poetry and puppetry along with a good dose of music, merriment and mirth.

Director Conrad Nelson returns to Liverpool after previous successes with Accidental Death Of An Anarchist and Lisa’s Sex Strike to turn his hand to Chaucer’s classic tales of humanity.

Nelson said: “We’re using puppetry, manipulation, physicality and opera.

“We’ve got a lot to do in a short space of time. We’re essentially trying to put nine mini plays on stage, so it will be one hell of a ride.”

With sixteen actor–musicians playing over eighty parts this production promises to be an unforgettable romp of an evening.

The Canterbury Tales also brings actor Mathew Rixon back to Liverpool after his successful performance in 2008’s Endgame at the Everyman where he performed alongside his father Mathew Kelly.

The cast also includes At Home With The Braithwaites actress Ishia Bennison and Richard Standing, known to millions as Coronation Street’s Danny Hargreaves, last seen in the spectacularly successful Broadside’s production of Othello.

The Canterbury Tales is the perfect play for this charismatic company of multi talented actors. Audiences have constantly delighted in Broadsides’ infectious exuberance and enthusiasm unmatched by any other company.

The show will run 23rd- 27th March at the Playhouse. To book tickets please call Box Office 0151 709 4776 or visit www.everymanplayhouse.com
