The most revered of the classical ballets, Swan Lake, is turned upside down in Matthew Bourne's triumphant re-interpretation which comes to Liverpool's Empire Theatre this February.
The hit performance blends dance, humour and spectacle with extravagant, award-winning designs to create a provocative and powerful Swan Lake for our times.
Now firmly crowned as a modern-day classic, this iconic production is perhaps best-known for replacing the traditional female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble.
New Adventures performers Richard Winsor and Jonathan Ollivier both make their debuts in the coveted role of The Swan.
Leading dancer Richard has taken the title role in the stage production of both "Edward Scissorhands" and "Dorian Gray" and is starring in his first major film, “Street Dance”, the first British movie to be shot in 3D, which will be released this Spring.
Newcomer Jonathan returned to the UK last year having forged successful career with both South African and Canadian ballet troups.
The pivotal role of The Prince will be performed by debut performer Sam Archer who joined the company in January.
Sam has a long history with Matthew Bourne having been part of Fagin’s Gang in the original London Palladium Revival of “Oliver!” in 1995.
Also featured in the cast are Nina Goldman, who returns in the role of The Queen, Scott Ambler and Steve Kirkham, who share the role of The Private Secretary.
Collecting over 30 international theatre awards including three Tonys, Swan Lake has been acclaimed as a landmark achievement on the international stage. It has become the longest running ballet in the West End and on Broadway and enjoyed four hugely successful tours in the UK and thrilled audiences all over the world.
The Empire Theatre hosts Swan Lake from 22nd to 27th February. For more information visit www.LiverpoolEmpire.org.uk
