Married couples are being invited to renew their vows at a special Valentine’s Day service at Liverpool Cathedral.
As St. Valentine’s Day 2010 falls on a Sunday, the Cathedral has organised an intimate service at 5.30pm.
Couples can renew their vows in the intimate setting of the Lady Chapel, which is often used for weddings. They can then opt for a special candle-lit dinner prepared especially for them.
The service, taken by the Dean of Liverpool Cathedral, and with specially chosen music, will be one of celebration to give thanks for marriage, and it will also be an opportunity for couples to recommit to each other.
After the service, couples will have the option to wander through the ‘Icons in Transformation’ exhibition (as the Cathedral will be closed to the public) before going to the Western Rooms for a candle-lit Valentine’s Day Supper, which begins at 6.30pm.
Couples opting for the meal will also receive a personalised home made heart cake to take away.
Dean Justin Welby, who will be leading the service said: “Perhaps to some people, religion and the romance associated with Valentine’s Day are not obviously linked.
"However, Liverpool Cathedral is hoping to change that. On St Valentine’s Day, there will be a short service to renew the promises and hopes of marriage, simply and without embarrassment. There will be beautiful music, a wonderful setting - the Cathedral’s Lady Chapel - and moving words. There is also an option to continue the celebrations with a candle-lit dinner.
