Winner of the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Prize 2009 and The Guardian’s ‘Pick of the Fringe 2009’ ‘If That’s All There is’ from renowned theatre company Inspector Sands embarks on a national tour, opening at unitytheatre, Liverpool on Tue 20th February.
Commissioned by the Lyric Hammersmith, If That’s All There Is was the sell-out hit at the Traverse Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival, scooping the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival prize.
The show will now embark on a four-week tour of the UK, finishing with a two-week run at the BAC (Battersea Arts Centre) in London.
Inspired by the Peggy Lee version of the bittersweet existential song 'Is That All There Is?' by Lieber and Stoller, If That’s All There Is uses a bold visual style and absurd humour to explore the great effort we invest in seeking fulfillment.
Inspector Sands’ first production, the multi-award winning Hysteria, was a dissection of ordinary lives in the modern age of anxiety.
If That’s All There Is continues their interest in the 21st century mindset, offering a mini-epic of longing, envy, disappointment and psychobabble which examines our obsession with feeling happy at any cost.
The play features a couple teetering on the brink of marriage. As the happiest day of their lives approaches, the panic begins to rise. And everyone’s watching.
Through the eyes of a jaded therapist and an awkward teenage girl we witness a case study of longing, envy, disappointment and violent urges, examining our obsession with seeking fulfilment at any cost.
For anyone who’s ever wanted to stand on a windswept plain, howling for lost love…
