Avatar is expected to become the highest grossing movie ever today.

The sci-fi epic, directed by James Cameron, has reached a whopping $1.841 billion at the international box office - set to smash Cameron's previous record with ocean drama Titanic.

The 1997 disaster movie Titanic took $1.843 billion worldwide.

Avatar has already made more than Batman film The Dark Knight, which was previously in the second spot.

The 3D extravaganza has already become the most popular movie at the iconic Odeon cinema in London’s Leicester Square, selling 71,500 tickets.

Odeon and UCI cinema boss Rupert Gavin said: “Avatar has a winning combination of spectacular 3D technology and worldwide acclaim."

Avatar is already the quickest film to make $1 billion at the box office, doing so in just 17 days earlier this month.

It has been nominated for eight BAFTA Film Awards, and won Best Dramatic Film and Best Director at the recent Golden Globe Awards.
