Liverpool Cathedral is to host a service of spiritual and physical Christian healing on Tuesday 1st December 2009 at 7.30pm.
It is an ecumenical service, which means that taking part in it will be members - ordained and lay – of different Churches from Merseyside and Region. It will begin with informal praise and worship at 7.30 p.m. before the official start at 8.00p.m. All are welcome.
After a brief act of worship, there will be opportunities for the ministry of the Laying-on-of-hands with prayer and anointing with oil for any who would like to receive it. This will be offered at various locations in the central main space of the cathedral. After the service there will be an opportunity for longer conversations.
Canon Anthony Hawley from Liverpool Cathedral said: “An intrinsic part of the Gospel’s mission is the place of the healing ministry, and, for the second year running, Liverpool Cathedral is holding a Service of Christian Healing at the beginning of Advent.
"This is an ecumenical service of spiritual and physical healing, an open invitation to all to experience the healing presence of Jesus. We want there to be a real feeling of expectation.
“There will be opportunities for individuals to come forward if they wish, to receive the laying on of hands and to pray for themselves or for others, like the small group in Luke’s gospel who carried their paralysed friend to Jesus on a stretcher, lowering him through the roof.
"We hope that people will come along, even just to take some time out, to be still and to reflect, whilst those around them pray for them.”
