Culture vultures and arties get your glad rags on ready for the city's galleries and museums to open all night for the Long Night extravaganza next week.

Following on from the success of last year's Long Night celebrations, people are being urged to bring out their sleeping bags for a special film screening.

The mammoth 24 hour event is being held alongside the Abandon Normal Devices Festival of new cinema and digital culture, including 30 Galleries, 11 Music venues, 10 guided tours across Liverpool.

Former poet Laureate Andrew Motion will be reading his work at the Bluecoat, as part of the Liverpool Poetry Cafe series.

The Walker art gallery is open until 10.30pm with atmospheric DJ sets, live music and poetry from pop act Malcontents and guitar-based duo the Hushtones.

Meanwhile, the Empire Theatre will be holding backstage tours from 5-9pm and underground clubbing phenomenon The Kazimier is holding a special party.

A Foundation, on Greenland Street, has planned a 24-hour programme, which includes music and dancing until 2am, all-night cinema and a non-stop interview involving more than 70 artists, curators, musicians and insomniacs.

The programme is also being supported by Merseytravel, which is opening up George’s Dock tunnel ventilation building at the Pier Head for free tours throughout the evening.

FACT is hosting four hours of free social games and social experiences, E Chambré Hardman’s Photographic Studio on Rodney Street will be open at night for the first time and community historian Steve Binns will lead a guided tour between St George’s Hall.

FACT director & AND co-organiser Mike Stubbs says: "After the massive success of last year's Long Night, we are expanding our programme by popular demand.

"It’s fantastic to see an even longer list of Liverpool’s venues and galleries working together to create an exciting evening of after dark activity across the city."

Booking is recommended for most events. Further info and a timetable of events and parties can be found here www.thelongnight.org.uk
