Anarchy was the order of the day as teams from across Liverpool came together for a fundraising ‘It’s a Knock Out’ competition.

Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services (LCVS) hosted the event at a sun-drenched Mossley Hill Athletics Club, with the aim of helping local charities and voluntary organisations raise funds for their important work.

More than £5000 has been raised so far, and organisers are confident that this figure will increase considerably.

The 12 teams, consisting of local businesses and sports clubs, battled their way through a series of events, including the giant inflatables and water pools made famous by the TV show. There were also dancing competitions to keep contestants on their toes.

More than 800 people attended the competition, which was won by ‘El Presidente’ – a team made up from the cricket section of Mossley Hill Athletics Club. The team will go on to compete in the ‘It’s a Knock Out’ national semi-finals, to be held in Blackpool later in the year. Guests were also treated to donkey rides, a fun fair and a barbeque.

Each team raised money for a charity of their choice, with beneficiaries including The Marina Dalglish Appeal, Claire House and Henshaws Society for Blind People.

Clare Beavan, Philanthropy Development Manager at LCVS, said: “Charities depend on their supporters, especially given the current economic climate, and are simply unable to operate without funding.

“The aim of the event was to get people from all across the city together to support local groups in their fundraising efforts. The turnout was fantastic and the feedback has been really positive – we are looking to turn this into an annual event.

“The response from people has been phenomenal but I wouldn’t expect anything less from this city. The money raised will be a great boost for Liverpool’s voluntary sector. Stuart Hall would be proud!”

Richard Kenyon, captain of the Kenyon Fraser team, said: “I learned a lot about my staff today – we can’t pour water in straight lines; we certainly can’t dance but we excel when it comes to sack racing!”
