
A Merseyside council team has won an award for its work in making a film desgned to raise awareness of issues faced by gipsies and travelling people in Britain.
St Helens Council and its partners picked up a major national award recognising their work on equality and diversity.
"Somewhere to Live" - a short film about meeting the needs of Gipsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople scooped the award for Equality and Diversity at the Royal Town Planning Institute Awards in London.
Last year 4NW and the Cheshire Chief Executive Advisory Group asked if they could come to the Council’s Sherdley Road Caravan Site to film for the DVD called.
Council officers and residents at the site took part in the shoot.
Local resident Jimmy Price, Dawn Taylor (from the Cheshire Chief Executive Advisory Group), Michael Gallagher, Director of Planning, Transport and Housing attended the RTPI - Planning Awards 2008 at the Hilton Hotel, London to receive the award.
